Inspired by Nature
The Wyss Institute pioneered the idea of Biologically Inspired Engineering, which combines synthetic biology, nanobiotechnology, and other approaches that leverage biological principles to develop new engineering solutions for medical and non-medical fields that have never been touched by the biology revolution. The Wyss develops innovative technologies using this idea, with the goal of bringing these developments out of the lab.
There had always been a desire to show some of our technologies in the same image as the object in nature they were inspired from, but before I got there it hadn’t been executed.
The “Inspired by Nature, Built by Science” series does exactly that. The images were posted on social media and the entire series was published on the website, with appropriate captions.
These graphics were extremely well received, not only by traditional audiences, but by other offices across Harvard University, who have used the images for their own projects.
